Learn how to mend your denim and woven clothing with beautiful hand stitches. Join Erin for an information-packed, hands-on workshop to learn a sashiko-style visible mending technique. Make your own sashiko stitched sample pattern, and learn “tips and tricks” to get you started on mending. This is a great class for beginners and seasoned hand stitchers alike with an interest in hand stitching as both a functional and beautiful craft. 


This 3-hour workshop includes:

-a presentation of mending materials and how they are used in practice

-a hands-on tutorial to practice and complete a patch, in the sashiko-style embroidery technique.

-an explanation of how to repair specific types of clothing mends (crotch/butt    patching, threadbare areas, torn pockets, worn knees)

-an opportunity to ask questions about your project-bring it with you!

-sashiko needles

-thread

-beeswax

-printed outline

-needle threader

 

This class will take place at Swoon City Our address is 1716 NW Market Street, Seattle, WA 98107. It's at the intersection of 17th and NW Market Street - kitty corner from Mighty-O Donuts.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before class begins. 

If you cannot attend class for any reason, we will offer an exchange to another class currently on our schedule up to 48 hours before the class. After that time, no refunds or exchanges are issued out of respect for our teachers who purchase and prepare supplies based on the number of attendees.

Our current masking protocol is that anyone attending an event can email us at Info@swoon.city to let us know they prefer that people wear masks up to 72 hours before the event begins. Your request is anonymous to all the other participants.

Attendees will receive an email before the class to let them know If we will be requiring masks. We have masks available at our front desk if you don't have one handy.

Erin Eggenburg is a maker, mender, and author and instructor who resides in Portland, OR. She is the owner of wrenbirdarts, an embroidery and mending supply shop, and author of The Mending Directory. Erin teaches a variety of visible mending and embroidery classes regularly.
